Strum, Ruger & Company began in 1949 by William B. Ruger and Alexander McCormick Sturm in Southport, Connecticut.  Experts thought that at the time the market was saturated with gun manufactures and Ruger didn't have much of a chance to succeed.  While taking it's design ideas from other manufactures they were able to create a very popular .22 caliber pistol that put Ruger on the map, sorta speak.

Ruger has been a major factor with their lines of .22lr rifles and pistols, mainly the 10/22, and the MkII.  The 10/22 is the most popular .22 rifle in the US because of it's reliability and good price point.  It also has a huge after market for parts and modifications.  The 10/22 was also listed on a proposed gun ban by name for it's popularity and the ability to modify it.  I know, a .22 rifle needs to be banned?

Ruger was able to win, "Handgun of the year"  from 2008-2011 by the Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence with the LCP, LCR, SR9c, and LC9.  These will be the first Ruger Handgun Reviews done by THR.

Ruger produces hundreds of thousands of guns each year for hunting, target shooting, collecting, self-defense, law enforcement, and government agencies.  The Ruger Vaquero is an old west type single action that is very popular for cowboy action competitions.

Did you know?

Did you know that Ruger P-series handguns have been in over 40 movies and TV shows?  Movies like True Lies and National Treasure.
